Hillary Smith-Maddern is a leadership consultant with SchoolWorks.
She has served as an instructional coach and department head in two charter schools committed to improving educational outcomes for Springfield, MA students.
As an inaugural teacher at Veritas Prep Charter School, she served on teams responsible for the development of anti-racist curriculum and instructional practices. It was there she developed her passion for curriculum design.
She began her career as a classroom aide in Western Massachusetts, where she provided services to high-need students before becoming a middle school ELA teacher. Although she has spent most of her career in Western Massachusetts, she has also served as a literacy and writing instructor in both China and Turkey, and her enthusiasm for culture and travel is evident in all her work.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Smith College and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Fitchburg State University.
